{"id":1509,"date":"2026-09-10T16:05:45","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T06:05:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.via.farm\/?post_type=product&#038;p=1509"},"modified":"2026-09-16T16:46:26","modified_gmt":"2026-09-16T06:46:26","slug":"chameleon-one-6-sensor-pack","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/shop.via.farm\/index.php\/product\/chameleon-one-6-sensor-pack\/","title":{"rendered":"Chameleon One 6 sensor pack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A pack of six Chameleon soil water sensors for use with the Chameleon One reader.<\/p>\n<h2>Chameleon Soil Water Sensor<\/h2>\n<h3>How the sensor works<\/h3>\n<p>The Chameleon Soil Water Sensor mimics the way a plant experiences the amount of water in the soil by measuring how hard the roots have to suck (the tension required) to extract moisture.<\/p>\n<p>It is designed to be accurate in the range that most plants are sensitive to water stress.<\/p>\n<p>Because the Chameleon Sensor measures tension, it does not need to be calibrated to different soil types.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Blue means the soil is wet (0 to 20 kPa)<\/li>\n<li>Green means the soil is moist (20 to 50 kPa kPa)<\/li>\n<li>Red means the soil is dry (greater than 50 kPa)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Rigorous testing of each batch of sensors ensures they will perform within a fixed tolerance range.<\/p>\n<p>For more info see:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/via.farm\/faq\/#relationship\">FAQ: What is the relationship between colour and soil suction?<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Sensor design<\/h3>\n<p>The Chameleon sensor is fabricated with an inner core of sensing material surrounded by an outer coating of gypsum. At the heart of the sensor is two gold-plated electrodes that measure the resistance across a special medium in the centre of the sensor. This special medium is packed into the sensor in such a way as to calibrate the sensor as it is built.<\/p>\n<p>Gypsum is then cast as an outer casing. The gypsum allows moisture to move through to the sensing material while dissolving a small amount of gypsum into the water, creating a constant electrical conductivity environment, thus buffering the sensor. When salt levels in the soil exceed 4 dS\/m will the sensor calibration shifts.<\/p>\n<p>This sensor should not be confused with a gypsum block that measures the resistance across gypsum.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A pack of six Chameleon soil water sensors for use with the Chameleon One reader.
